Decorating Dilemmas

New Bedroom Retreat

Question:

Dear Ballard Designs,

We are in the process of decorating our bedroom in our new home. I have attached photos of the room, and we are in desperate need of art work and seating for the room. We love the Simone Bench at the end of the bed but would really love suggestions for more seating either in front of the window or in the corner to the right of the dresser. The furniture is black and the bedding is white and a soft cool shade of blue.

I purchased the Set of Entomology Plaques, but I’m not sure what to do with them. I would also love something for over the bed, but the clearance is short due to the headboard and the angle of the wall. I really like the Mirrored Butterfly Prints, but I’m not sure if they work with the mirrored night stands.

I absolutely love Ballard Designs and have been pouring over the catalog for months, but cannot seem to make a decision as to what to purchase to complete our bedroom retreat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Dear Dana,

What a beautiful room you have created. We just think you are spot on!

We agree with you that the Mirrored Butterfly Prints would look spectacular above your bed. Each one is 11” high and 11” wide. We like to work in odd numbers, such as 5 prints across the back of the bed. Measure carefully to make sure you have enough room above the bed, and center the prints from the middle of the bed. There is a basic symmetry to your design, which is why the mirrored prints will work so well with the mirrored side tables.

You might choose our Leyland Armless Chairs, placing them on either side of the table in front of the window. They are a stylish and functional choice covered in either Creamy Pintuck, Orsay, Spa Linen or perhaps Etiene. The Leyland chairs will give the room a contemporary look but with classic lines. Another choice for seating would be the Square Louis Armchair (again covered in one of the listed fabrics) to lend an air of European sophistication to the space. Either choice is correct - it is just a personal decision.

The Entomology Plaques can be hung one over the other on the wall to the left of the window. Just be careful not to repeat any more “sets” of prints in the room. It can become overworked and a bit too repetitive.
